Unsworn

Elizabeth points to a collection of work and teaching from Erik Sandelin and Magnus Torstensson, two crazy Scandanavian interaction designers.

Seeing stuff like this makes me wish we were occasionally a little less pragmatic here in Iron City.

Both Magnus and Erik were in the atelier with me in Rome last fall - fabulous researchers and designers, not to mention super fun guys!

Be careful what you wish for, Chad. Because Magnus’s research was not so ‘pragmatic,’ he was constantly pummeled in thesis crits. It is important to be mindful of meaning and purpose in one’s work; often this is about point of view.

Pragmatic is as pragmatic speaks. I think there are lots of ways to do the work of design, and lots of ways to present what and how and why you do it. Some of them are more “crazy” than others; it’s a choice we all make. But we *do* all have that choice – it just depends on what kinds of explanations we feel comfortable giving about what we do, right?
